Novel mtDNA haplotypes represented in the European captive population of the Endangered François’ langur (Trachypithecus francoisi)

Abstract Assessing the genetic diversity of captive populations endangered species is key to successful management conservation-breeding programs. In this study, we sequenced a 393-bp fragment mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) control region 23 individuals Endangered François’ langur ( Trachypithecus francoisi ) assess mtDNA European population and identify possible geographical origins founders. Combined with 42 sequences previously published from 29 wild langurs, identified total 40 haplotypes in T. , including 12 samples population. Only one animals has been reported populations; remaining 11 are newly here. Our results suggest that currently holds relatively good compared many other populations, originates fairly broad range across species’ distribution wild, could play significant role increasing isolated populations. However, quite small, be lost rapidly, which demonstrated We recommend further investigation as well effective conservation diversity.
